The Start Of Filming

Today we are planning to start filming. This means we are working on a filming schedule which starts tomorrow.

We have decided to film the lyrics being spelt out first for the chorus because we thought that this was the easiest part of filming to organise and arrange. We thought this because we do not need to rely and on actors and do not have to organise them. We also do not have to worry about securing a specific location as this can be filmed anywhere. We also that these were shots and scenes that can be obtained quickly and efficiently as there are only three of us so we do not need to have a specific time schedule. We are also using my bridge camera to film so we do not have to worry about booking a camera from school , there for these shots will be even quicker and easier to achieve. We have chosen to film the lyric part of the film in school as this fits with our theme, this also makes the shots more convenient as we do not have to travel anywhere.

We will be filming tomorrow morning from 10 to 10.

What we will be filming:
  • someone writing lyrics on paper
  • typing lyrics
  • writing lyrics on a white board
  • holding up signs with lyrics on
  • lyrics on a Facebook status
  • lyrics on hands

Animated Storyboard

This is our storyboard put to music. We are planning to do another video including a voiceover of us explaining what is going to happen in each shot, shot types and angles etc. The music and storyboard pictures are not exactly in time but counting the beats helps you to keep on track.

The blank spaces in the storyboard are where we are spelling out the lyrics. The boxes are numbered, and below is a list of the corresponding ways that we are spelling out the lyrics.

Practice shots

Today, we did some practice shots of some of the things we intend to include in our music video. For example, this video is a practice shot of typing some of the lyrics to fit with the music. We plan to speed up to video to fit in with the timing of the song.

This video is a slideshow of images that we took to spell out the lyrics of a part of the song. Instead of using video for this particular shot we have decided that it would be easier to take individual photos and play them in the correct order to fit with the lyrics.

Storyboarding

After spending a while storyboarding our ideas for our music video, we have finished. We have included lots of detail including the lyrics that go with the visual, what shot type we intend to use, the angles we want to try for the shots and any other notes that we feel we will need to take into consideration when filming our music video.

Seeking Permission

Due to potential copyright infringement's we have chosen to attempt to contact Sum41 and ask permission to use their song in our music video.

Overall Choice
We have designed a logo for our production company that we feel embodies the genre of our music video. We originally thought that we would use our logo from last year so that it appeared as a subsidiary company to TEKPRODUCTIONS. However, upon reflection, we decided to use the ‘TEK’ but replace production with ‘RECORDS’. We felt that records fit with the genre of music we are concentrating on because records are viewed as unique and individual these days, just like our target audience.
Font
The reason why we chose the font is that it looks like American school lettering that is often used on school merchandise. This will help our audience relate to our record label as the age group we are aiming at (13-20). Also the fact that the logo font looks as though it was draw also fits in with our intended audience. Stereotypically, our alternative target audience, are portrayed as artsy and also rebellious, therefore we thought the fact the font looks academic but scribbly fits in with the target audience.
Image
The image we chose is a pair of ‘can’ headphones. We chose these particular headphones as they are in fashion in the alternative crowd, with brands such as ‘skullcandy’ and ‘beatz’ recreating the older style of headphones known as can’s. We chose to put red on the headphones as red could suggest anarchy which could be associated stereotypically with our audience and our genre of music. A lot of pop punk artists use the values of anarchy to promote their band and image.

Brief for the exam and overall plan

1. A promotion package for the release of an album, to include a music promo video, together with two of the following three options:
• a website homepage for the band;
 • a digipak for the album’s release;
 • a magazine advertisement for the digipak.
We have chosen a song to make the music video for. The song is 'in too deep' by Sum41. We chose this song because we all like the genre of pop punk. We also really like the style of video's that the genre pop punk uses.

We chose to do a teenage theme. This is because of the nature of the song and the lyrics. We also conveniently have the resources available to produce such a video without it looking like we could only use our school. We will use other locations, however , this will be the majority of the shots as the theme is teenage love.

Our ideas for the video consist of a teenage love narrative but also have interesting images of the lyrics and people miming the words to the song. We may also include thoughts on hold up cards as this fits with the lyrics of the song.

Also in our video we will be playing with stereotypes. This will be portrayed through the narrative. The narrative is of a teenage boy (main character) who falls in love with a 'popular' girl who is the antithesis of everything that he is. This will be portrayed through the mis-en-scene by the clothing , props and action. The boy believes that because of their very different social statuses that they cannot be together, however it turns out that the girl listens to his favourite band. This results in a romantic love story.
